Choral Symphony
“Joy, daughter of light, Goddess of the family, Goddess of flowers!”
This is not the official text, but the rhythmic translation by Arrigo Boito of Ode to Joy, the Choral Symphony, title of Beethoven’s IX.
The Choral Symphony is a tribute that most represents classical music of this type.
The great musicians through history have competed with composition of symphonies, Haydn, Mozart, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Mahler, but the most famous, and most often performed are the nine works of Ludwig van Beethoven.
Choral symphony was the title given to his last work, the Ninth Symphony, where for the first time a musician blended the chorus together with the orchestra in the last movement. It is famous for the Ode to Joy, Ode an Die Freunde, taken from a text by Schiller, and the official anthem of the European Union.
The embroidered phrase is not part of the official text translated into Italian, but instead of a metric version written by Arrigo Boito, also a composer, in order to be sung more easily.
